Honing your craft till you reach perfection was not something internet popularized. Just watching at what people living way before us created, you can already guess that they did it too.

With Internet, we are surrounded by masters. Professionals or hobbyists that are exceptionally good, skilled, informed. I love niche topics, and it always makes me the most happy that whatever the niche I can find, I'm also quite sure to find an expert talking about it on the internet.
For instance, when I had an hanafuda interest, I quickly found a community and even a full wiki dedicated to those little cards (this emoji! → 🎴).
I'm also a jazz lover (guess the instrument) and happen to currently be focused on 1970s-2010s Japanese creations such as Fukui Ryō (福居良), Carioca, Ōno Yūji (大野 雄二)... but I'm no expert. I know I'm just overviewing it.
I play a bit in a local group and when my partner told a friend about it, this friend—being also interested in jazz—asked:
" She plays West Coast Jazz or more New Orleans Jazz? "
... my partner couldn't answer, but me neither. I didn't even know that was relevant as Jazz is a large, worldwide genre, filled with many subgenres that sometimes overlap. Wikipedia even lists more than 50 different of them! At my level, which is quite low, it doesn't matter. I'm just playing music.
I always noticed that I'm always like this. Interested in many crafts, genres, activities, but never wanting to go too deep into it. I often felt out of place to talk about such topics as I don't know much. Is it because of my gender? Is it because of my education? Is it because of my character?
I'd say it doesn't matter. I still appreciate stuff, love learning from experts and always try to ask people to correct me if I'm wrong.
It's okay to be a casual player, an average enjoyer. As long as you're having fun. This is love letter to the medium range. You are valid too!
Experts, keep digging where we can't. We love you too.
